The big sales of New Forest ponies take place at a special yard, known simply, as Beaulieu Road, in the open countryside south of Lyndhurst. The yard’s named after the Beaulieu Road train station, which is close by, and is run by the New Forest Livestock Society. The link to the station is from the days when the ponies were sold all over the country, and would be taken away by train. Some ponies went to work down coalmines.

Bob Andrews had hundreds of ponies out on the Forest. He still remembers his first deals, which he made as a boy at Beaulieu Road.
